A The Association of Parents and Friends of the Mentally Handicapped of São Paulo – APAE (Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais de São Paulo) is a non-profit organization.

Founded in 1961, APAE of São Paulo promotes social inclusion of the mentally handicapped individuals, helping about 1.9 million people in São Paulo, from their birth through their adult life. The association offers services in the areas of medical diagnosis and heath care, laboratory tests on newborn babies and premature stimulation, education, professional skills of the mentally handicapped for employment, social-occupational and artistic activities, and dissemination of knowledge on mental disabilities.

Solutions

» Oracle Database and Oracle Internet Developer Suite were used by the partner for the creation of a unique application for APAE São Paulo, called PEP (Patient’s Electronic Record)
» PEP allowed APAE São Paulo to manage patients’ information within a single platform
» Oracle iAS was used to create a simplified interface for PEP
» Reduction of paper forms and freeing of space from dead files
» The same platform allowed the integration of the multidisciplinary team’s information, storing medical, nutritional and physiotherapeutic data, and other types of data
» PEP’s utilization allowed the analysis and comparison of patients’ data, facilitating scientific research
» The adoption of iAS allowed 25 authorized users at APAE units in São Paulo to access the system through the Internet.
