A new research carried out by Instituto Sem Fronteiras, with the purpose of knowing Brazilian companies' IT investments forecast, determined that they will be resumed in the second half of the year. The institute interviewed 240 CIOs and 77% of them declared that they will increase the technology investments in the second semester despite the fact that they are not sure whether they will indeed have the resources planned in their original budgets.
According to the report, the main projects planned by these CIOs haven't changed: ERP review, implementation of the Digital Bookkeeping System (SPED), modernization of the infrastructure and the adoption of virtualization.
According to the Instituto Sem Fronteiras, only 31% of the investments planned by the companies for this year were spent in the first five months. This is due to the fact that the companies were waiting to see how the economy would develop in the country, according to the research.
The research also revealed that some segments such as government, utilities (energy, sanitation and gas) and finances were the least affected in their IT budgets this year. On the other hand, manufacturing, oil and mining, commerce and agribusiness are expected to drop their investments.
Instituto Sem Fronteiras had already carried out a research with 1,140 companies between January and March in order to identify the IT investments trends this year. The results of the study pointed out towards a reduction of 0,2% on IT spending after five consecutive years when investments increased above 10%.
Due to the economic crisis, CIOs were very conservative, new projects were put off and 42% of the interviewees stated that they were renegotiating projects. According to the consulting firm, this has affected the results of the suppliers in the first semester, resulting in weak sales in the first three months of the year and a consequent increase in the second quarter.
