Main projects in the manufacturing area include ERP, says survey
Monday, April 9th 2007, 22:29

As part of the surveys carried out with CIO’s and the main executives in the IT area from several segments, Instituto Sem Fronteiras – ISF (No Frontiers Institute) disclosed this Monday (April 9th) the investment trends for the manufacturing companies this year. The study showed that the main IT projects and challenges in the manufacturing segment will be different in each sector. “Commonly, we have observed that 65% of the interviewees mentioned as their main project for the year something related to ERP: migration, reimplantation, substitution, etc., says ISF general director, Luiz Matzenbacher. “No other segment is so concerned about its management system”.

The reason for this concern, according to the survey’s findings, is that many manufacturing companies are redesigning its processes and reimplanting their ERP systems, thus standardizing all back-office systems and adopting intelligent platforms for collaboration involving total control over the supply chain and interaction between the management system and the sales force.

The study revealed that the manufacturing segment had the worst self-evaluation of their ERP system. Around 45% of the interviewees affirmed to be somewhat satisfied with its suppliers, while 16% are unsatisfied. Only 39% are completely satisfied. The survey also shows that only two companies mentioned the adoption of the SOA architecture as a major priority of the segment, but 10% of the interviewees intend to adopt this architecture this year. On the other hand, half of the interviewees said they were still considering adopting it.
On the study about telecommunication investment trends for this year, the VoIP solution came out as the main Project in the manufacturing segment. 45% of the interviewees say they will invest on this solution. The main reason mentioned was the need to cut down on communication costs among branches in different regions of the country.

“Forty five percent of users will hire consulting companies to assist them. We have also found out that the average amount of investment on the solution has been increasing and there is a great concern with security, which opens way for monitoring and management service providers, and also intrusion detection and firewalls”, says Matzenbacher. According to him, another great change in this segment, pointed out in this survey, is that 25% of the interviewees intend to outsource its data center this year.
In the manufacturing segment, ISF interviewed 220 companies, mostly big-sized ones. The segment, according to it, stands out in the IT market, since 45% of the largest 500 companies in the country are part of it.
